Please note that currently we do not offer 'Drop in' Groups - you will need to have attended an introductory meeting before attending our groups or joining our Discord.
Our group times are deliberately a little late in the evening to allow members that are at university or work to get to them.
Please be aware that currently, we can only provide places to adults (18+).
Tuesday 6-8pm
The General Group is intended to give people an opportunity to socialise in whatever way they want - video games are common (such as Jackbox), as are board games. However, we also often have conversations - psychological, philosophy, history and politics, for example.
Within reason, there aren't really limits to what you can do at this group - so if there's something you'd like to see at it, feel free to ask the rest of the members (or staff/volunteers if needed).
There's also some space during this group to chat with Alastair for advice/mentoring.
Thursday 4-8pm
The Gaming Group was set up to provide a place for members interested in wargaming to play, but it is also to allow a time for board games, card games and video games. The group has a very long time slot, but this doesn't mean group members need to show up for the full four hours - it's this long for the wargamers!
Wargames are agreed in advance on our Discord to ensure that people aren't carrying huge amounts of models around for nothing.
(Online social server)
We have a private Discord server - when you join, we'll send you an invite. The server is 'real name' - or, specifically, whatever name you'd use in real life - to allow for easy crossover between online and offline socialisation.
We use this server to keep you up to date with announcements and important information. However, it's also used by the members to socialise.
And post a lot of animal pictures, because it's the internet.
Finally, the server can host online groups.
There's two reasons for this, and neither have anything to do - really - with gaming. If you'd like to discuss 'gaming' and its benefits specifically, we'd be more than happy to do so, but more generally:-
We feel that having an activity to do makes socialising less risky. It gives a 'pre-packaged' set of conversation options to use if the energy cost of socialisation becomes too high.
Secondly, and most importantly - we do a lot of gaming because gaming is what our members have asked for.
If you have an idea for a group that you would want to attend, please do let us know - we'll then work with you to find out if there's interest and see if we can run it. However, we are quite limited at the moment in how many groups we can run.
